Kayak Ratings

Our six kayaks on the trip can be compared to Henry VIII and his six wives:

Intex Explorer 1:
Lasted us for the whole of practice and could fit a good amount of luggage, however was pushed too hard by Couch and Rhys and was first to fall with a ripped side seam when getting stuck on a fallen tree branch.

Rating: 5/10
Died of: Tree Trunk caused Side Split
Killers: Rhys & Couch

Intex Explorer 2: aka 'The Sunken Snake'

Took a beating on day 1, getting stuck on a rock which caused a 2 inch puncture on the bottom. Didn't last long as was given to Rhys Bowen. A slight sissing noise started coming out of it and before long one side, one bottom and one seat were deflated which left it with little hope to continue...

Rating 6/10
Died of: Slow Sissing Split Seam
Killers: Rhys & Joe

Black Diamond: aka 'Black Pudding'

Bought on the cheap from Argos on Day 2 to fill a void. More of a lilo than a kayak and was very hard to navigate with no rudder. Managed a good 30 miles before popping late on Day 3.

Rating: 2/10
Died of: Popping
Killers: Joe & Rob

Intex Explorer 3:
Taken great care of by Thom and Elise and was the kayak of the trip even though it got punctures during practice. Solid, reliable and sturdy, a great boat that will be sorely mised.

Rating: 9/10
Died of: Split Seam
Killers: Sophie & Couch

Seyvlor Colorado: aka 'The Titanic'

A borrowed boat, the most expensive of the lot. Had a hard undercoating and could carry the most luggage. There was no doubt this boat was going to survive but took on a great deal of water so got slower as the days went on.

Rating: 8/10
Didn't Die

Seyvlor Tahiti:

A final purchase from decathlon. Why buy a 2-seater when you can buy a 3-seater. It was very streamlined but lacked a bit of control due to the fact it didn't have a rudder. Available to hire for the day @ £9.99 - please contact the blog owner for further details.

Rating: 8/10
Didn't Die
